- Christening/Baptism services (Barry churches)
- July, 2012.
- Infant Baptism, often know as Christening, is a ceremony through which children are brought into the family of the Christian Church. It implies a willingness on the part of the child's family to engage in the life of the church through attendance at worship and encouragement of the child as he or she gets older to engage in the life of that church.
It is normally preferable for this to be part of the normal Sunday worship but practice in Barry leads to large family gatherings which make this impractical. Also the number of requests far exceeds the availability of ministers to conduct the services. They cannot therefore be offered "on demand" to meet the preferred date of the family - though this may sometimes be possible.
In order to deal with the numbers involved we offer a monthly introductory session which all, except those who are regular church-goers, are expected to attend before a date can be booked. These are usually on a Monday afternoon from 5.00 to 5.45 pm at St David's Methodist Church, Colcot.
